Storage in Australian healthcare has traditionally been procured in a piecemeal fashion, without much planning, or consideration of the workflow required in the usage and replenishment of hospital supplies. This has largely come about due to the absence of specialist storage solution providers that understand that storage and materials management are an integral component of healthcare delivery.

Against this background, the principals of Healthspace embarked on research, and a global search for a solution that would deliver a flexible, efficient and adaptable solution to meet the total storage requirements within busy hospital environments. The result of this search was the Scan Modul Storage system from Denmark.

The Scan Modul system is an intelligent storage solution based on a space efficient, modular approach to constructing the storage infrastructure within hospitals. The modules used are interchangeable between the various storage systems available, so that the storage can be adapted to the current and future needs of the hospital.

Coupled with the physical hardware, is the process and workflow for materials management. The Scan Modul system is designed to take advantage of recognised best practice methods for managing inventory and replenishment of supplies using the "no-count" concept. The Scan Modul Data System (SMDS) and hTrak software solutions complete the picture!
